Description

Although some of the fae population has managed to slip into the ranks of the middle- and upper-class citizens, the majority of the fae in Madrenice still experience oppression and prejudice from others. Because of this, many fae are pushed into living in the various slums scattered across the city, and one popular location is a small island south of the mainland. An abandoned concert hall and ramshackle church make for decent shantytown-style housing arrangements, often doubling as the scene for shadier business ventures (rare fae-world drugs, prostitution, etc.) in the hours after sundown.

However, not all of the slums are riddled with drug dealers or exotic dancers--in fact, it’s quite the opposite. For the most part, the fae slums of Madrenice are just dirty, crowded areas of side-by-side shabby housing units and apartment complexes. Despite their filth, these areas are affordable and easily-accessible for the lower-class members of society, and often become the only choice many fae have that will allow them to avoid homelessness. If they are far enough away from prying eyes and talented enough with their fading magic talents, some fae have been known to spruce up the interiors of their slums with enchantments, keeping an outward appearance of dilapidation but an inner appearance of any middle-class suburban household.
